The Epic Sax Guy: A Brief History

I got Rickrolled hard the other day.  I was watching Youtube clips of the Tyra Show about real-life vampires and then an episode about women who have two vaginas (Five women, ten vaginas).  Then in the suggested videos there was a clip that suggested Lil Wayne admits he’s gay to Tyra.  While there’s nothing wrong with that, I was intrigued, from my vast knowledge of rappers, Weezy has a wife and kids.  It’s happened before though.

Anyway, my journalism skills were piqued and I clicked only to find out that there is no romance between Birdman and Lil Wayne, but in fact I’d been duped.  I was getting an eyeful of Rick Astley doing what he does best: light 80’s synth-pop.  Well played, good sir.  Well played.

Anyway, I came across this as well which seems to be on some level used for similar practical internet jokes.  Youtube is littered with extended versions of the sax solo on loop, but here’s the original video, which in my opinion is loaded with hilarious moments.

That sax guy is just so pumped to play the saxophone.  Even when he’s not playing it, that guy is amped.  He’s part of the Moldovan Euro-pop group Sunstroke Project, and his name is Sergey Stepanov.  Worst of all, he probably has no idea that he’s famous or way more famous than any member of his band.

That’s about it, if you were wondering what the deal was with that 80’s looking dude in the white RayBans rocking out on his saxophone, now you know.
